The introduction to the martial art, this should only be a few sentences long. See Vale Tudo for a good example. (Required)
[edit] Concept (Required)
Understand the basics: This section should give you a feel for the "essence" of the martial art. Core concepts and beliefs; how it differs from others and what its aims and goals are. Should be brief.
[edit] Philosophy (Optional)
A more in-depth tour of the philosophy and beliefs if needed; the "mind" of the art.
[edit] Etymology (Optional)
Always a nice addition; the etymology of a martial art's name usually reflects its core concepts.
[edit] Technique (Required)
Learn the moves: The main part of the article. This section should represent the "physical aspects" of the martial art. Begin with a paragraph describing the basic (physical) characteristics of the martial art. It should then detail all of the techniques (attacks, blocks, stances, forms/katas, weapons ...) used in the martial art, using images and videos for visual aid. Linking to a sub-section is recommended in cases where the technique list is very long.
[edit] Weapons (Optional)
Describe the weapons: If the martial art features weapons in its use then a brief overview and links should be entered here (also see the Weapons Page Template for creating weapons pages)
[edit] History (Required)
Know the history: A chronicle of the martial art's history from its origins to the modern day (if it is still practiced; otherwise, untill whenever it fell extinct).
If this section is quite long, it should be seperated into relevantly titled sub-sections.
If it is brief, a link to Wikipedia (Optional) for more information is recommended.
[edit] Culture (Optional; highly recommended)
Explore the culture: Insights into the culture, traditions and organisation of the martial art. Examples of sub-sections include: Competition, Ranks & promotion, Dojos, Rules & regulations, Dresscode, Recent popularity, Terminology, In popular culture, etc.
[edit] Genealogy (Optional)
Discover the roots: A chart showing how this martial art is related to others through influence, development and origins. See Help:genealogy tree for more info.
[edit] Schools/Styles/Variants/Disciplines (Optional) NB: Select the most appropriate term for a heading; don't use all of them.
[edit] Notable practitioners (Optional)
Meet the masters: List of well known practitioners of the martial art, with links for further details. e.g.
- John Smith (1932 - 1978), founder of the Smith school of Karate
[edit] In fiction (Optional)
Fictional practitioners of the martial art, from films, television, comics, video games, etc.
[edit] Get involved (Optional; recommended)
Get started: Where and how to learn the martial art. Generally links or contact details for schools and organizations that teach the martial art. For popular martial arts, this section should be shifted to a sub page and divided by geographical region. Major links should still be located in the main page of the article.
[edit] Links (Optional; recommended)
Read further: Other links for further information about the martial art. This could include corresponding pages on Wikipedia. Major links should still be located in the main page of the article.
[edit] Footnotes & references (Required, if citations were made)
